Tulay Tünay was the ninth child born to a musical family in Balıkesir, Turkey. She received her first musical education from her older brothers and was publicly performing by the age of 4 with the help of her concert promoter uncle.
Tulay was educated in the fields of classical Turkish music and Turkish traditional music by some of the leading teachers in the country. Thanks to extensive stage experience, and the very different musical genres that she sang, Tulay became a master singer, able to mould her voice into any form possible.
